Nine extensions, all accepted

  • PPTX — current format, a ZIP of XML. PPT is the pre-2007 binary one.
  • PPSX — identical content, set to launch in slideshow mode.
  • POTX / POT — a template. Masters and layouts, no real slides.
  • PPTM / PPSM / POTM — the same three with macros attached.
  • ODP — the LibreOffice and OpenOffice equivalent.

All nine open here. The macro-enabled ones render; nothing executes.

What a rendered deck leaves out

Each slide becomes one image. Anything that depends on time or on a click is not in an image:

  • Transitions and animations. A slide with a four-step build shows all four steps stacked together.
  • Video and audio. You get the poster frame.
  • Speaker notes. They sit in a separate part of the file, outside the slide.

Hidden slides do render. They were hidden from the presentation, not removed from the deck.

When a deck misbehaves

Over 20 MB. Embedded video, or full-resolution photographs. In PowerPoint: File, Compress Media, or Compress Pictures.

Text spilling out of its box. A missing font was substituted and the replacement is wider. Ask the sender to save with fonts embedded.

Password required to open. Type the open password into the field under the upload box and the deck renders. Without it, nothing can.

Marked as final. A flag, not encryption. It opens normally.

To hand the deck to someone without PowerPoint, the PowerPoint converter exports PPT and PPTX as PDF.
